AGARTALA, July 16 (TIWN): CM Manik Saha’s Vehicle had to change its regular route to Secretariat on Saturday as students’ parents of Umakanta Bengali Medium school had blocked the road in protest against a teacher’s transfer. According to the agitating guardians, the Umakanta Bengali Medium school has only 9 teachers and at least more than 9 teachers are needed to cover up the gap. Guardians said often two classes are bound to be clubbed due to a shortage of teachers. In this condition the most active teacher Jhalak Dey’s transfer who was controlling the system inside the school amid the crisis is unacceptable.
The guardians also stated from Monday they will lock the school and would not send their children to the school in protest against the teachers’ crisis.
“Not only Jhalak Sir, but no teacher should be transferred when this Umakanta school needs more 9 teachers. In the case of Jhalak Sir, he should not be transferred even in the distant future because he is managing everything in the crisis. Children love him, obey him and he is the only hope for us. Without him, the school will perish”, an agitating mother of a student told the media.
The parents before the road blockade had contacted the authority who reportedly told them they have no control over the situation and that’s why they can’t do anything. Then the parents sat in protest by blocking the VIP road.
Police personnel tried to console the angry guardians that they will take the issue to the upper level but the agitators refused to be convinced and continued to protest for hours. However, giving an ultimatum of 1 day, the parents withdrew protest and said, if the transfer order is not revoked then, from Monday again road blockade will be resumed.
