AGARTALA, June 11 (TIWN): A pregnant housewife Sonali Das has committed suicide in Panisagar after a Panchayat meeting was held, organized by her in-laws. The housewife allegedly set fire to self on Saturday morning after few hours of the meeting led by Panchayat held on Friday night. Family suspects, she was insulted in the meeting. The deceased was 3 months pregnant. According to the deceased’s husband, Panchayat members were present in the meeting but he also did not mention what was the issue of the meeting.
But what was the issue of the illegal meeting participated by Panchayat members it’s not clear.
As per Indian law, except in court, nobody can give any judgment on anything but under Tripura BJP many housewives had lost their lives in a similar manner after Panchayat tortured the women mentally. Before a few years in Amarpur, a housewife’s personal videos were displayed in public using a giant TV screen and that victim also committed suicide.
However, Women Commission is fully silent over the issue.
Question raises, how in an independent nation where all individuals have freedom and human rights, how can Panchayat members announce a verdict on any issue? Is this the reason, why India is still counted as a third-world-country ? Will Police take any action on abetment to suicide? Will Women Commission or Judiciary react ?
