UDAIPUR, January 6 (TIWN): More than three thousand people of Buddhist Community today met with a deputation with the Senior Deputy Magistrate of Gomati District Ranjit Das protesting against the torture of the Budhdha Priest Sunanda of the Kunjaban Buddha Bihar located at Maharani on 29th December .
A team of eight member delegation met the Sr Deputy Magistrate in his office in the afternoon. Before that the Buddhist community brought out a protest rally that went across different parts of Udaipur.
It is to be mentioned here that the Priest of the Kunjaban Buddha Bihar Priest Sunanda was alleged to be beaten severely by a police official namely Bijoy Barua along with his family members. The Buddhist community complained that Bijoy Barua fell on Priest Sunanda spreading a scandal that Sunanda stole a Shiboli idol from a near by temple. The Buddhist delegation during the deputation told the Sr Deputy Magistrate that this was a baseless allegation and Sunanda is innocent. Moreover, the community also demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits Bijoy Barua and his associates.
They also urged that administration must take steps to protect the Buddha Bihar of Kunjaban and also to give adequate security to the Buddhist community .
