AGARTALA, May 30 (TIWN): ‘Deprived Returnees Movement’ Committee on Monday in a press conference at Agartala Press Club has announced that they will go for massive protests and road blockade for indefinite period on Assam-Agartala National Highway at Champaknagar if their rehabilitation is not given as per promise.
Amrit Reang, General Secretary of the Committee said they were promised various times that the Govt will take action to fulfil their demands but no promise was fulfilled even though many meetings were held and many times, assurances were given to them.
The last meeting was held on 27th October, 2021 with Tribal Welfare Dept Secretary.
“We are demanding our basic rights. All human need some basic things for survival. After spending years in forest, we decided to return to normal lives as the Govt assured us to provide livelihood means but we have not received anything much yet. If before 5th June the Govt does not take any decision, we will go for road blockade for an indefinite period”, said Amrit Reang.
There are total 48 groups of extremists who surrendered and total 859 returnees are there right now.
