AGARTALA, May 17 (TIWN): Police at the Churaibari watch post on the Assam-Tripura state border under the Bazarichhara PS in Karimganj district have again achieved great success in an anti-drug drive. Total 1183 kg of dried cannabis was recovered from a six-wheeler private transport department vehicle during a raid.
Two people were arrested for this smuggling, the two were identified as Wasim S/o- Liak Ali, resident of Punhana, Haryana, and Basim S/o- Chonga Mia, resident of Barsana, Mathura, Uttar Pradesh.
Gate in-charge Niranjan Das said that at around 11 pm on Monday, local police searched the six-wheeler vehicle number- DN09V9011 on the way to Assam after crossing the Tripura border and found a large quantity of cannabis inside the vehicle.
The detainees during interrogation said that they had collected cannabis from Ranirbazar area in Agartala, Tripura, with the help of a special syndicate and intended to smuggle it to Bihar via Guwahati. They will be taken to the district court on Wednesday, police sources said.
It is pertinent to mention that about 25 police checking gates in the state of Tripura have, despite that often contraband items are being caught in Churaibari Checking Point which generated question on the role of Police.
