AGARTALA, March 17 (TIWN): As per “Vision Document” promise of the BJP of 2018 today, Tripura Finance Ministry has declared a major decision to increase the social pension of the beneficiaries to Rs. 2,000 which was earlier Rs. 700 in the Left Front Govt's time. After the Assembly Session, Finance Minister cum Deputy CM Jishnu Debbarman said, “Tripura has merely 10 lakhs families and 3.81 lakhs people among them will be benefitted of social pensions. For that Rs. 654 Crores will be the expenditure. We were giving them already a hiked amount of Rs. 1,000 and now Rs. 2,000 will be given”.

Debbarman further said, “For the decision, our Govt has financial backing already… GST collection has also increased… Without financial backing a budget is a hollow budget”.

Controversy however still remains as thousands of people have been deprived of social pensions in Tripura after the BJP Govt had come to power. Although the Finance Dept said, after verification, all social pensions will be restored, but huge complaints are pending over slashed social pensions.

The Assembly also took decision to increase the retirement age of TSR jawans from 57 to 60.

For the first time in Tripura’s history, a gender-budget was placed with cost of Rs. 50 crores.

In the Education sector, 20% budget has been increased and for that 5,000 crores will be sanctioned.
