AGARTALA, March 15 (TIWN): Challenging lower court decision on bail rejection, Tripura Congress appealed in District Court and today in an order Court has bailed out the Congress activists. A total of 8 persons had been arrested in the clash connection by West District Police though Police miserably failed to take necessary action against the BJP clash participants even after having evidence. However, the bail is not unconditional and with a bond of Rs. 2 lakhs along with instructing the accused not to leave West District, the order has been passed. However, one of them, Shahjahan Islam will remain in jail for now as he although received bail under West PS case but still a case remains under East PS. Congress said it is a historical decision.

Chronology of the Agartala Political Clash Incidents on 26th February 2022

  1. Congress’s peaceful rally was attacked violently by miscreants at Math Chowmuhani wearing a helmet at around 2 pm. The stage was vandalized and many Congress workers including women were injured. Police could not arrest any helmet-wearing miscreant.
  2. The miscreants then entered the BJP office at Banamalipur (CM Biplab Deb’s constituency) and Congress followed the miscreants. Then Congress protested in front of BJP office where stone-pelting was held both from BJP office and Congress workers. Congress activists also broke BJP’s van which was kept in front of BJP office.
  3. In the evening, BJP’s thousands of workers led by top BJP leaders in presence of Police attacked Congress Bhawan by stone pelting and started vandalizing Congress Bhawan. The BJP attacked Congress Bhawan from all sides in presence of Police. Later petrol bomb was allegedly thrown from Congress Bhawan and BJP and Police accused that Congress workers did it, though no proper evidence could be gathered. This third set of attacks was exposed as BJP and Police’s nexus as the question raised, amid such a sensitive situation, how could police permit BJP to march towards Congress Bhawan?

However, in the entire incident, no BJP worker was arrested. Eight Congress workers were arrested. Today, they were bailed out.
