AGARTALA, Feb 18 (TIWN): Since 2018 Govt formation, Biplab Deb Govt has cut over thousands of old trees in Agartala in the name of SMART City and development.

What was done with those trees, whether Forest Dept’s permission was taken or not, it was never explained.

In the North Gate area age-old trees were cut but the roads were never extended and now in the name of the four-lane road, trees are cut in the Airport road.

Instead of building flyovers, the destruction of forests and trees erupts resentment among the environmentalists and common men. 

When first world countries are focussing on sustainable development and eco-friendliness, this Govt is working as per age-old human tradition of town expansion where development means destruction and factory smokes.
