AGARTALA, January 1 (TIWN): With no traffic personnel at Agartala Banamalipur traffic post near Purbasha for the last couple of weeks turns it to be an unsafe road. It could be witnessed that for the last couple of weeks the traffic post at the area remains free with no traffic personnel during the evening hours till night. This has occurred several mishaps till now and has turned the road into a risky zone, especially during the night hours. And most surprisingly Traffic SP was found unavailable when tried to make a contact with him for the issue.

For the last couple of weeks it could be witnessed that the Banamalipur traffic post near the Purbasha area remained free with no traffic personnel daily during the evening till night. And recently several road mishaps had occurred at the area due to a lack of traffic system at the area. The locals alleged that the department has been playing a silent role in this regard due to which the road has now turned to a risky zone for the traffic movement at the crossing.

It could also be witnessed that the lack of traffic signal at the crossing has lead to a major hurdle for the heavy vehicles, especially while taking turn. However, later when the TIWN tried to make a contact with the Traffic SP Smriti Ranjan Das several times in this regard the departmental staffs made him unavailable, saying that he has not come to the office.

It is to be mentioned here that the lack of traffic signal for the last couple of weeks at the crossing of Banamalipur area near Purbasha has of course lead to a danger zone for the vehicles, where the small and heavy vehicles are falling prey into it every day.

In the state recently, exposure to potential road traffic injury has increased largely because of rapid motorization, coupled with poor road conditions, rapid population growth, lack of safety features in cars, crowded roads, poor road maintenance, and lack of police enforcement.

It is mentionable that lack of parking place, poor awareness among locals and defunct signal posts has led to a spurt in accident related cases in the capital city Agartala and other parts here in Tripura. The town, which is expanding at a fast pace, has no parking space for vehicles. The locals face difficulty in commuting on busy thoroughfares as vehicles are parked on the roads leading to traffic congestion. Accidents are frequent on the road as traffic personnel use hand signals which are not clearly visible during night time. The pedestrians are also at risk of getting mowed down by speeding vehicles. The traffic and the police personnel are taking no step to keep a tab on the speed limits of vehicles other than staging a barricade at some parts of the city to nab the two-wheeler drivers who are not using helmets.

Beside, though the electronic traffic signals were proposed to be installed here in the capital city and this even seems to have diminished when till today the state govt. has not taken any certain steps to curb the increasing rate of road mishaps here in the capital city.
