AGARTALA, January 1 (TIWN): Malaria experts hinted at two varieties of mosquito - Anopheles Minimus and baimaii to be the prime cause of spreading malaria in different areas of Gandacherra Sub Division, said a highly placed source of health department.
“The malaria experts from ICMR have collected samples of these two varieties of mosquitoes during their visit. They would conduct research to find out the conclusion behind the malaria attack in these interior places. They are yet to submit a detailed report based on their observation,” the source mentioned.
Asked about the issue of the submission of any detailed report of the malaria experts, the source said that the team would submit the report at the earliest, though the exact date is not confirmed.
Referring to the steps taken from the administration level, he said that awareness campaigns and health camps were organizing in different areas of the sub division, especially Ganganagar, Gandacherra and Longtraivalley. The people were also displayed causes and after-effects of malaria through audio-visual media. All family living within a sizeable radius of malaria-affected areas were provided mosquito nets to protect them. The source further said that the mosquito species were found resistant to anti malaria drugs and mosquito repellants commonly used in the state.
A seven-member team from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has selected different areas - Dalapati, Wansapara, and Bhagirath for visit to conduct a survey. During their visit, they met different people and collected their blood sample to conduct examination. Further, they also took sample of the mosquito responsible for spreading the malaria.
