Cabinet meeting makes TET compulsory as per NCERT guidelines: State to frame TRB; Vidyalay Chalo Abhiyan from Jan 1

AGARTALA, December 30 (TIWN): After a long hiatus Tripura cabinet meeting today decided to make Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) compulsory as per the National Council for Education and Training NCERT guidelines. Teacher Eligibility Test will be conducted with a total of 150 marks, where a candidate have to score at least 60% and the recruitment under the TET will be done on merit basis, said State Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty. Speaking to the reporters here at the civil secretariat today Minister Tapan Chakraborty said that the state govt. has decided to make the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) compulsory for the recruitment of the teachers in future.The cabinet meeting today decided to frame a 5 members Teacher Recruitment Board (TRB) comprising of Chairman and director and rest as a members, said Tapan Chakraborty. He further added that according to the NCERT guidelines the TET examination will be conducted with a total of 150 marks and one have to secure 60% marks.

 Recruitment of the candidates in teacher’s posts under the TET will be done on merit basis, said State Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty. “once a candidate appear for the TET and gets passed with 60% marks, his or her job panel will continue for at least 7 years and if any candidate want to appear for TET second year, than he or she can appear for it”, said Chakraborty.

Adding to that Minister Tapan Chakraborty said that under the teacher recruitment policy of the state govt. one needs to be class XII passed with 50% marks along with 2 years diploma in Elementary Education (EE) for Class 1 to 5. And 5% relaxation for the SC/ST and Physically Handicapped candidates. For Class 6 to 8, one have to be graduate with a minimum of 50% marks with 2 years diploma in EE and 5% relaxation for the SC/ST and PH candidates, said Chakraborty. “there is no need to appear for TET for Class 9 to 10 and for Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha”, said Chakraborty. Adding to it he said that as per the NCERT guidelines one have to have a qualification of B.Ed. for class 9 to 10. And for Sharba Shiksha TET is compulsory.

Minister Tapan Chakraborty later said that the state govt. to start a new education policy from 2015 and will conduct Continuous Compressive Examination. Besides, the Vidyalaya Chalo Abhiyan to start from January 1 and will continue till January 7 next, said Chakraborty.
