AGARTALA, December 29 (TIWN): Chief Minister Manik Sarkar acting sharply on the rising rate of crimes in the bordering areas urged the concerned BSF Jawans to act more active in bringing the situation under control. He urged the BSF, Tripura Police, Assam Rifles forces and other security forces of the state to keep a strict vigil along the bordering areas on a joint operation.

Later sideling the developmental works of the state, CM Manik Sarkar urged the concerned DMs to take a stock of the situation of the roads and transportation system of the bordering areas and complete it soon. Mr. Sarkar also urged the concerned construction agencies to finish up the construction works at the Indo-Bangla bordering areas soon in time.

Four Indian northeastern states of Tripura, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Assam share an 1,880-km border with Bangladesh. The mountainous terrain, dense forests and other hindrances make the unfenced borders porous and vulnerable, enabling illegal immigrants and intruders cross over without any hurdle.

India is erecting a fence and putting up floodlights along the 4,096-km India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal, Tripura, Assam, Meghalaya and Mizoram to check trans-border movement of militants, and to check border crimes.
