Saket Gokhale submits RTI to National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) seeking Chief Secretary & DGP’s ‘Action Taken Report’ on Tripura Violence

AGARTALA, Dec 15 (TIWN): RTI activist, Trinamool National Spokesperson Saket Gokhale has filed an RTI to National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), seeking reports from the NHRC regarding Tripura. The RTI was filed based on NHRC’s earlier given direction to State Tripura to submit the “Action Taken Report” via Tripura DGP and the Chief Secretary on Tripura violence. The RTI filed today subjected “Furnishing Information within 24 hours u/s 71(1) of the Right to Information Act, 2015” Gokhale has said, “On 2/11/2021 the NHRC had issued a notice in in case no-36/23/2/2021 to Chief Secretary and Director General of Police State of Tripura for an action taken report within 4 weeks on the complaint made in the aforementioned case..”

The questions placed through RTI to the NHRC are :

  1. Please state whether the Action-taken-Report has been received by NHRC from Tripura Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, for an Action-taken-Report in the stipulated time of 4 weeks. If yes, please state the date on which the NHRC received the report,
  2. Please state whether a copy of the Action Taken Report has been provided to the Complainant. If not, please state the reasons for it therefore.
  3. If the Action-taken-Report has been received by NHRC, in case number 36/23/2/2021, please furnish a copy of this applicant who is also the complainant.

"Despite a Dec 2nd deadline the Tripura Govt. is yet to submit a action-taken report to NHRC about violence in the state.  Partiality towards @BJP4India ruled states by @India_NHRC is SHAMEFUL!  Our leader @SaketGokhale has filed an RTI demanding the status of the report", TMC said in a press release.
