AGARTALA, December 27 (TIWN): Most of the Motor Vehicle Inspectors (MVI) of vehicle office at Lake Chowmuhani are involved with fake driving licence racket.

According to a source, “A tout identified as Tapan Saha is involved in the scandal. He used his contacts with the licensing authorities and was successful in issuing driving licences to 47 people on the basis of fake documents. This is a very serious issue and the police should carry out a thorough investigation, the source mentioned.

The sources further said that around 100 smart card driving licences are issued by the transport office on a daily basis. Most of the approving authorities blindly trust the touts and agents and avoid verifying the documents.

Some of them, who are data entry operators, used to give details of licences which needed to be renewed or transferred. And some others produced fake licences through computers with numbers in original driving licences, after scanning existing two wheeler licence and converting them into four-wheelers and heavy and light motor vehicle licences, sources said.

Few others are working as brokers around vehicle office and managed to get prospective customers for two-wheelers, LMV and LMV Badges, HTV, charging Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 as against the official fee is less than Rs 2,000, the source said.
