Kolkata / New Delhi, Nov 24 (TIWN) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital on Wednesday, and urged the latter to withdrew the decision to extend the territorial jurisdiction of the Border Security Force (BSF) in Bengal. She also raised Tripura violence issue before the Prime Minister.

"I met Prime Minister Narendra Modi today over a number of state-related issues. We also spoke on the BSF's jurisdiction extension issue and demanded that this decision be withdrawn," Mamata said.

The Union ministry of home affairs had recently extended the jurisdiction of Border Security Force up to 50 km in border states, including West Bengal. The Mamata Banerjee government had strongly opposed the Centre's move stating that law and order was a state subject.

In a significant move, Mamata also invited the Prime Minister to open the Global Business Summit to be held in the state next year.

'Discussed Tripura violence with PM'

“I told the PM about the Tripura violence. I told him what is happening there is not good. Reporters are being quarantined so that they cannot cover. Saayoni is a very big star,” she said, referring to TMC youth wing leader Saayoni Ghosh who was arrested in Tripura Sunday before being released on bail. 

The West Bengal chief minister also discussed the issue of violence in Tripura with the Prime Minister. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) claims that its workers are being targeted by the BJP in Tripura. Mamata had described the situation in Tripura under the Biplab Deb-led BJP government as "atrocious" and asked why the human rights commission was "not taking a note of the ongoing use of brute force" in the Northeastern state.
