AGARTALA, December 27 (TIWN): To make the people aware of road mishaps, road safety week would be observed that would start from Jan 11 at Vivekananda Maidan.
The decision was taken in a meeting at Civil Secretariat presided over by Minister for Transport Manik Dey recently. Addressing the meeting, the Minister said, "The state recently is witnessing frequent road mishaps. The road safety week programme aims at making the people aware of road safety measures. Awareness helps the most to prevent road accidents".
Minister for Transport Manik Dey further said that a decision had been taken for the installation of electronic traffic signals in the six prominent place of the capital city namely Math Chowmuhni, Orient Chowmuhni, Paradise Chowmuhni, North-Gate, Gurkhabosti and IGM Chowmuhni. But no preferable date had been fixed for its installation, the minister mentioned. Electronic traffic signals will be installed soon in the state but it needs some time, minister added.
The officials in the meeting decided to observe the programme in different sub divisional headquarters and block headquarters. The programme will include discussion on road safety, quiz, 'sit and draw' and street drama. Posters and stickers would be stick and leaflets would be distributed.
Besides, discussion programmes would be held for the school and college students. Manik Dey said, "We would try to reach the awareness programme to Panchayat level. Our aim is to make as many people aware of road accidents".
