AGARTALA, Nov 19 (TIWN): For almost two years now, the bridge over the Rangapani River in the Nidan Kobra Para area of ??Ward No. 3 under Jagai Bari ADC Village in Jampuijala Block has turned out to be a death trap for extremely low maintenance. All the soil on both sides of the bridge is broken. The bridge is currently hanging. The villagers are living in fear that the bridge could fall into the river at any time. Starting from Bridge Tipramodnagar Class XII School Road, thousands of people from Rai Bari, Dewanbazar Don Bosco, Duharam Gujimapara area walk on this bridge every day. In the last two years, many villagers have suffered from pain in their hands and feet while walking on the bridge. They have fallen into the river with their bikes too, alleged the villagers. The villagers witnessed a lot of such incidents in which the bike riders were critically injured due to this crippled bridge.

The villagers came together and informed the Jagai Bari Village Committee. The villagers have taken up the issue at all levels of administration. Jagai Bari Village Resolution MLA Birendra Kishore Debbarma sent the resolution signed by him to Jampuizla Block on 24-10-2020. However, the people of Jampuizala Block Jagai Bari ADC Village and the MLA of the area have not visited the bridge so far. The MLA promised that the road will be fixed with boundary wall for the convenience of the villagers. But almost four years have passed since he became MLA and he has not visited this bridge till today. Day by day the two sides of the bridge are going into the river. It became hard for the villagers to move.
As a result, the villagers got together and collected donations from each family. But the rains have washed away all the soil in the river. Now every moment every villager is walking on this bridge at the risk of his life.  Locals are fearing a major accident. The locals demanded that the MLA should speak to the BDO of the Jampui swamp block and p.w.d. Otherwise, the people of the village will soon join the blockade of Promodnagar Jampuijala road.  Now it is to see what action the MLA and Authority takes to resolve this issue and end the sufferings of the villegers.
