AGARTALA, Nov 13 (TIWN): CPI-M along with other Left party leaders, activists had gheraoed the West Agartala Police station, SDPO Office in protest against ongoing barbaric attacks on the opposition and police’s inactive role to control the hooligans. Political criminalism, broad daylight attacks on the opposition, forcing the opposition candidates to withdraw nominations failed to draw police’s attention even after the Supreme Court’s strict direction to the DGP and Home Dept to ensure free and fair polls. This morning one Left front youth activist's house in Badharghat was attacked but no arrest was made. With all these issues, CPI-M organized the protest movement.Senior CPI-M leader exchanged heated arguments with police asking the SDPO Ramesh Yadav why no arrest even after FIRs.
The senior CPI-M leader also referred to the September 8 incident where only 1 person was arrested even though hundreds of people from the BJP party were exposed in video footage.
On the other hand, the TMC and Congress are also facing similar attacks. TMC alleged 9 violent attacks in the last 48 hours and Congress too faced barbaric attacks. Yesterday in front of police in Dharmanagar Congress candidate’s husband was slapped by a BJP worker.
CPI-M has condemned the role of police which has failed to put the criminals in lockup even though FIRs were lodged against them and in many cases, video evidence is available.
