Supreme Court’s bold step to save Democracy in Tripura : Judiciary’s tight slap on Biplab Deb led Tripura BJP’s organized Terror on Opposition Parties, Terror remains coward BJP’s only option

AGARTALA, Nov 12 (TIWN): After a long period of ongoing tortures with no room for grievance and paralyzed role of State Election Commission and Police Dept due to tremendous political pressure on the Departments under Biplab Deb, finally a tight slap from the Supreme Court has brought the Departments to senses.The Court has asked the Govt to stop the disturbances and to ensure a free and fair poll. The major development came after the opposition Trinamool party filed a petition in the Court and placed evidence. This decision of the Court came amid over hundreds of activists facing UAPA charges for raising voice against Tripura violence. The Supreme Court's order says, "We expect that necessary arrangements will be made by the Government & the DGP along with law enforcement machinery of the state". "We are of the view that since the election process has commenced, it is the responsibility of the respondents to ensure that no political party is prevented from pursuing its rights in accordance with law for political campaigning in a peaceful manner", the order stated.

“As regards the plea for individual security, the concerned Superintendents of Police who are impleaded as respondents shall take a decision having regard to the threat perception with reference to each case and area and take necessary action for the maintenance and provision of security, as required”, written in the Court order.

Trinamool Congress has hailed the judgement and thanked the Judiciary for upholding democracy.

Trinamool Congress has welcomed the Supreme Court’s judgement over Tripura’s violence, ongoing attacks on the opposition. The Supreme Court passed an order in a petition filed by the All India Trinamool Congress saying that it is the responsibility of the Tripura police authorities to ensure that no political party is prevented from exercising their rights.

Talking to media, Kunal Ghosh, TMC Spokesperson said, “We are thankful to the Supreme Court as it has accepted the facts about the ongoing violence in Tripura and Govt’s attempt of suppressing truth is now bare. We will also keep eyes on the development of the investigation and also we have complained to the Supreme Court that no action was taken against the miscreants who attacked the TMC leaders. We informed the Court about the attacks on various leaders like Anhishek Banerjee, women MPs and our workers and how now they are attacking our candidates. No arrest was made of the attackers”.

The order was passed by the Supreme Court of India by a Bench led by Justice D Y Chandrachud in W.P. (Criminal) No. 455 of 2021.

Key Points :

1. Respondent Nos. 3 to 10 (Superintendent of Police of various districts) shall act on the basis of intimations/complaints received from AITC’s candidates and their representatives with regard to violence/threats received, and if there is a genuine threat, adequate protection shall be provided.

2. The Director General of Police and the Secretary of Home, Tripura shall file a joint affidavit within two weeks in the form of an action taken report in connection with the complaints/FIRs which have been filed so far by the members of AITC.

3. Matter is returnable after two weeks.
