AGARTALA, Nov 11 (TIWN): Reacting over the BJP led violence in Tripura and consistent attacks on opposition candidates, TMC MP Sushmita Dev said, “How far Biplab Deb can suppress the opposition with sticks ? Biplab Deb should not forget that it is a country of Mahatma Gandhi not of Nathuram Godse''. TMC on Thursday had gheraoed the Police headquarter in protest against police’s inactive role against the hooligans. TMC raised the slogan of “Tripura Police Hay Hay, Biplab Deb Hay Hay”. On being asked by reporters when TMC will withdraw their protest, Sushmita Dev replied, “We are being asked about our protest withdrawal time but our question is when will this violence will end ? From the Amtali incident to all attacks, not a single person was arrested so far even after having video evidences”.
Talking to the media, TMC leader Rajib Banerjee asked BJP via media why the party is so afraid about free and fair elections ? He said, as BJP knows people will not cast votes in its favour, so BJP has been doing all these violence.
TMC also moved Supreme Court, filed complaints to the Human Rights Commission over such severe attacks on the TMC members.
"Why are the police silent ? Didn't the police take an oath of saving people ? Is Tripura Police committed to protect BJP miscreants and not the public ? Police also must remember that people of Tripura pay the salaries of police, not Biplab Deb pays them personally.
