New Delhi, Dec 26 (TIWN / IANS) The CPI-M Friday called for a "secular government" in Jammu and Kashmir after assembly elections threw up a hung house.
"The formation of the government in Jammu and Kashmir has become complicated because of the nature of the result and a hung assembly," the Communist Party of India-Marxist said.
"The BJP, which benefited from the polarization in Jammu region, is trying to impose its political design in the formation of the government," it said.
"This should be resisted in the interests of the unity of the state and safeguarding its special status.
"It is imperative that a secular government is formed in Jammu and Kashmir and the secular forces should rise to the occasion keeping in mind the larger interests of the unity and integrity of our country."
The CPI-M has one member in the hung 87-seat assembly where the Peoples Democratic Party is the single largest group with 28 seats followed by the Bharatiya Janata Party with 25 seats.
