AGARTALA, Oct 28 (TIWN): Sonamura subdivision is known as a hunting ground for cannabis cultivation in the whole state for past few months. On a successful note, about 21,000 cannabis seedlings were destroyed in three separate hills in Boxnagar's Khankaretila area in a continuous operation from morning till noon on Thursday. The whole operation was executed by the Kalamchoura Police.
OC Vishnupad Bhowmik himself with 30/40 police and TSR has been able to destroy a huge cannabis orchard in Khankarertila area. These cannabis plants are first cut down with shoots and the trees are destroyed again so that they can no longer grow.
However, it is known that these cannabis cultivation gardens are under the Forest Department. Today, a joint operation is being carried out with the help of the office workers. The market value of the destroyed cannabis in this operation is around 25 lakh rupees, said OC Bishnupad Bhowmik.
