AGARTALA, Aug 18 (TIWN): Tripura BJP Govt has received a jolt at the very beginning of its plan to arrest Trinamool top leaders from Kolkata including MP Abhishek Banerjee in a politically motivated case registered against 6 Trinamool leaders on August 10. The case was lodged after TMC leaders were protesting against a brutal attack on their youth activists and illegal police arrest on August 8 at the Khowai PS. The TMC leaders also questioned the police asking why no arrests of BJP patronized attackers under the PS ? After that Trinamool youth activists got bails and two days after the case was lodged against the 6 Trinamool leaders for being in Khowai PS alleging they disrupted the police functioning. Challenging the FIR, the petition was filed with two appeals : 1) To Stop the police procedure and 2) To quash the FIR. On the first hearing day, Tripura High Court accepted the plea of stopping the final report submission and charge sheet submission by police until further order. The next hearing will be on Sept 2nd but till then, the Court has restricted Police from submitting chargesheet or any final report.

Supreme Court Advocate Siddarth Luthra,  Tripura High Court Advocate Narasingha Das, Tripura High Court Advocate Debanjan Das were present on behalf of the petitioners.

Tripura Police has filed an FIR against senior Trinamool Congress MPs Abhishek Banerjee and Dola Sen, Bengal education minister Bratya Basu, party general secretary Kunal Ghosh, former Tripura minister Prakash Das and former MLA Subal Bhowmik for allegedly obstructing police officers from performing their duties.

However, the same police could not take any action against BJP party's activists after they organized various attacks starting from 2nd August's Abhishek Banerjee's car attack in Udaipur. From 2nd August to 15th August over 14 vehicles of TMC were vandalized, many were attacked, party office of Trinamool was destroyed in Sabroom but no action was taken against the attackers because of their political identity and pressure from the ruling BJP. On Independence Day, two women MPs Aparupa Poddar, MP Dola Sen were attacked and 5 persons were injured. They were brought to GB hospital and one person was critically injured. In those cases also no ruling party activist was arrested.

All these have raised questions on Tripura police's deaf and dumb role against actual miscreants amid political pressures upon them which is restricting police to act independently.
