AGARTALA, Aug 12 (TIWN): Hearing on Police Brutality on 10323 Teachers at CJM Court on 16th August. The crucial hearing will be held on 16th August, day after Independence Day in Tripura on the incident took place on 27th January, 2021 which has marked as the "Black Day" in Tripura's history. First time in Tripura teachers were beaten up in a democratic protest. Over 500 teachers left injured, around 20 were seriously injured. The total situation was provoked by Police after District Magistrate unprecedently announced
Matter of concern is that as the State Govt took no action against it, neither the Human Rights Commission raised a single voice for the teachers, police brutality in Tripura increased which recently injured school students and yesterday also police brutality was shown with unemployed nurses.
The case was filed by Joint Movement Committee (JMC) member Biswajit Banik.
Talking to media learned Advocate Purushottom Roy Barman said, "The case was registered against SP West Manik Das, OC-West Agartala PS Jayanta Karmakar, SDPO Jirania- Suman Majudmer, SDPO-Amtali Anirban Das, SDM Sadar Pradip Saha, DCM Sadar Asish Bisws. Against these 6 accused persons a complaint was lodged and the Chief Judicial Magistrate accepted the complaint yesterday and the hearing will be held on 16th August. 341 (for illegal arrests) 342 (wrongfully confines any person) 325 (causing serious injuries) 392 (robbing) 427 (harm) 120B (Intrigue) 33 IPCs."
"Our main statement is Police has no legal authority of doing any of those activities which were done on that day. FIR was lodged but it was expected that police would not take action against itself. Now, CJM court has accepted our complaint. On 16th August, the hearing will be pronounced", said Purushottom Roy Barman.
