AGARTALA, July 2 (TIWN): A criminal case was lodged against Tripura Police and the CJM Court has accepted the petition filed by Joint Movement Committee (JMC) member Biswajit Banik.
On 27th January, when 10323 teachers were sleeping in their 52 days long protest in front of City Centre, West District Magistrate without any law and order problem, had imposed Section 144 and seized the protest spot. Municipal Corporation and police took away all protest equipment, lakhs of donations funds which were donated by people in JMC's donation box.
Then 10323 teachers refused to be arrested but many were forcefully arrested. The teachers then blocked the road and all of a sudden police started lathi-charge.
The protest escalated up CM's residence but the protest continued in peaceful mode. Many teachers were beaten up leaving over 500 teachers injured, over hundred seriously injured.
The brutality of the Govt did not end there. When the teachers were hospitalized, Doctors were forced to give the teachers discharge certificates and in injured condition, the teachers were deprived of medical treatment.
In this regard a case was lodged in February and finally it has been accepted by the CJM Court.
Talking to media, senior Advocate Purushottom Roy Barman said, "We have requested the Court to issue notice to the officials behind that incident. A police officer whoever s/he is but in front of Court, all are equal. Police have no right for hooliganism and torturing common men. We are hopeful that the Court will do the justice".
