Multicrore MGNREGA scam: Police on the move submit charge-sheet soon: GRS Debprasad misappropriates over Rs. 12 lakh

Agartala, Dec 18 (TIWN): The partial charge-sheet into multi-crore MGNREGA scam of Bishalghar RD block is likely to be submitted soon before the Court, said police. The investigation into the scam till date revealed that one of the key accused persons of this massive scam- Debprasad Nandi, a Gram Rojgar Sevak (GRS) has reportedly misappropriated over Rs. 12 lakh of public funds, said an of police department today.

“Debprasad had reportedly misappropriated huge public funds without submitting utilization certificates to the concerned authority. The funds were released under the MGNREGA at Bishalghar RD Block in phases. The further investigation into public fund irregularities will be accelerated once Debprasad is arrested”, said police.

On the other hand, two other accused persons- Mita Malakar (Junior Engineer) and Chayan Nandi (Technical Assistant) also embezzled more than Rs. 35,000 and 30,000 respectively, informed police.

According to the police, Debprasad fled away to Bramanbaria of Bangladesh. By seeking assistance from Bangladesh Law Enforcement Agencies, police are trying to bring Debprasad at homeland, said police.

Altogether 9 persons were arrested or surrendered so far in connection with massive MGNREGA scam of Bishalghar RD Block while three accused persons including a woman- Debaprasad Nandi, Mita Malakar and Chayan Nandi are still at large.

On being asked about the progress, all the accused persons are started opening their mouths saying that a large amount of allocated MGNREGA funds at Bishalghar RD Block have been implemented in other works, said police. “In course of proper investigation, we are unable to make more statements on Bishalghar scam case now, the investigation is under progress on right track”, police said.
