Shortage of Health staff including hospital beds reported at Primary Health Center in Baikhora

AGARTALA, June 30 (TIWN): Recruitment paused amid the crisis of Doctors and nurses in health centers. Health centers are facing difficulties due to shortage of Doctors and Nurses but our Chief Minister who also sits in the Health Minister’s post is in deep slumber. Such a shortage of hospital beds including Medical Staffs reported in a primary health center.

Reportedly, patients are facing difficulties due to lack of hospital beds at Primary Health Center under Shantir Bazar sub-division, in Baikhora. It was noticed that the patients were lying on the hospital floor and taking treatment. While the media asked about the shortage of hospital beds, the on-duty doctor of the hospital said that the total number of beds in the Primary Health Center is only 10. And due to shortage of beds large numbers of patients are being treated on the hospital floor.

Dr. Shubhrajoti Majumder, an on duty Doctor at the hospital said before media beside the shortage of beds the Doctors told the media that there are other problems of the hospital. He said the number of patients is constantly increasing in the hospital due to the ongoing situation, so it is not possible to provide beds to everyone.

On the other hand, under Baikhora Primary Health Center he said there are 32,000 populations in the area, and presently the hospital is running by only 2 Medical Officers, and centering the shortage the Doctors are facing severe difficulties in providing treatment. The doctor said that at present one more Medical Officer is needed in this health center and presently the health center is running with 4 doctors and 10 nurses.

Moreover, in the midst of this epidemic the doctors said that they are constantly performing their duties. Dr. Shuvrajoti Majumder said that so far 6,000 - 8,000 people have been tested for corona in Surrey. Doctors said that 11,000 vaccines have already been given to those above 18 years of age. Doctors and beds both are needed for the development of this Primary health center. Now it remains to be seen what kind of steps the health department will take for the benefit of the people.

On one side Hospitals are facing severe crisis due to shortage of Doctors, Nurses and on the other side amidst the severe crisis in ongoing pandemic situation the state Government paused the recruitment for the post of Doctors and nurses.
