AGARTALA, June 23 (TIWN): Incidents of crime against women have become very common in our state. Although there are no more recent reports of crime against women anywhere on the Tripura Police website or the official website of the State Women's Commission, but almost every day the newspapers and news channels are covering crimes against women. Another bone-chilling crime against a minor housewife occurred in Nadilag area under Bishalgarh police station on 17th June.
The victim housewife has been identified as Popy Begum, 17 years old.
Reportedly, Popu Begam got married with Nasir Uddin one year ago but few days after the marriage, the husband physically assaulted her by demanding dowry. On 17th June the victim housewife’s husband and her in-laws members randomly attacked her with sharp blade. Shockingly 6 days have passed since this brutal incident but Bishalgarh police have not yet been able to arrest the accused husband Nasir Uddin.
It was alleged the accused Nasir embezzled three lakh rupees with Bishalgarh police and the heavyweight leaders of the area. And for that reason the Bishalgarh police have not registered the FIR even 6 days after the incident after such sensational allegation against the husband. Bishalgarh SDPO, Tapash Kanti Pal himself admitted that, however, such allegations were raised before against the Bishalgarh police.
State Women's Commission chairperson, Barnali Goswami visited the victim's house and was surprised over the incompetence of Bishalgarh Police against this sensational incident. The silent role of police has been raising various questions in the area.
The housewife is seeking justice and now it remains to be seen how the administration will give justice to the victim housewife.
