AGARTALA, December 16 (TIWN): Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) task force with senior officials kicked off an evacuation drive at Kumari till area under GB out-post, here today.

An AMC official stated that altogether 25 houses and some shops who occupied maximum space of the road were issued notice regarding dismantling their houses and shops. But they did not pay any heed to it. The house owners and the shop owners requested the AMC authorities to give them at least one month time to dismantle their property. If within one month the houses and shops are not dismantled by the owners then the houses and shops will be evicted by the AMC, the AMC official mentioned.

The owners of the houses and shops had been given notice many times but they turned a deaf ear to it. They are even updated through Newspapers advertisement and public address systems. Still they disobey the notice which prompted AMC to take appropriate steps, the AMC officer added. The officer also told that the ongoing evacuation mission will continue everyday in other parts also.

In order to tackle any untoward situation, State Police and TSR were put to service into the area. In the coming days mission will continue, said the AMC official.

However, earlier the task force had evacuated more than 40 hawkers from the Kaman Chowmuhni area during the 1st phase.
