AGARTALA June 20 (TIWN): Police recovered huge amounts of brown Sugar from a vehicle. However, the vehicle’s driver involved in the drug trafficking was able to escape from the spot.

It is learned that the police had secret information that brown sugar was being smuggled from Khowai to Teliamura via Teliamura Ghilatali road in an Alto car registered No-TR 06 A0210 at around 7.30 pm last night. Accordingly Teliamura PS, Police and Kalyanpur PS Police were in checking to catch the driver but noticing the police's arrival the vehicle’s driver increased the vehicle’s speed, and at one point the driver left the car and fled away from the spot by crossing Khowai River.

Though, huge amount of brown sugar was recovered from the car but the driver escaped, said Kalyanpur Police Station, SI Pritam Chakma.The market value of the seized brown sugar will be around Rs 1.5 lakhs to Rs 2 lakhs. The incident caused a stir in the Ghilatali area last night.
