AGARTALA, June 16 (TIWN): Allegations of beating up two women in the name of arbitration were raised against the members of the ruling party led by Bhuvan Das, a member of the North Srirampur Gram Panchayat. The incident took place at noon on Wednesday at Siddinagar Das Para under Rajnagar PR Bari police station under Belonia sub-division.
Gokul Das and Subal Das had a land dispute with their neighbor Nani Das. An arbitration meeting was called at Nani Das's house on Wednesday afternoon. Accordingly, Kanan Bala Das W/O Gokul Das and Alorani Das W/O Subal Das went to the arbitration meeting with their two grandchildren. When the local panchayat members present at the meeting, were taking only Nani Das’s side, both the ladies refused to accept it. Soon after that North Srirampur Gram Panchayat member Bhuban Das, local ruling party leaders Anand Nath, Monindra Das, and Ravi Shil assaulted the women physically.
Shockingly, when the victims went to file a case against the culprits at PR Bari police station the police denied accepting the FIR against local BJP leaders.
Later after MLA Sudhan Das reported the matter to the SDPO, the police took the FIR.
This is not a single incident. Recently a lady committed suicide in Tripura after she was beaten up, assulted in such an open meeting.
