AGARTALA, December 15 (TIWN): A colorful rally was organized by the students of Umakanta Academy to mark the two daylong celebration ceremony of the post centenary silver jubilee celebration of Umakanta Academy. Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Sahid Choudhury inaugurated the programme. Director of school education department P.K. Chakraborty was also present in the inaugural ceremony. The rally traveled through various routes of the city.

Addressing in the inaugural ceremony minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Sahid Choudhury said that the Agartala H.E. school was founded by Maharaja Bir Chandra Manikya in 1890 and developed by the Maharaja Radha Kishore Manikya when he acceded to the throne in 1896.

It was renamed as Umakanta academy in 1904 in recognition of good activities of the Prime Minister of the Kingdom Umakanta Das. It has three play grounds, one swimming pool and a hostel.

Ashim Das teacher of the school said that our mission is to believe in the innate potentialities of every child and provide excellent opportunities and quality education to mould him or her to be a leader and winner of the world of tomorrow through the harmonious fusion of the ancient gurukulam and modern educational concepts. We will continuously improve the school's performance by involving the students, staff and parents, he added.
