AGARTALA, June 8 (TIWN): A man, Sunil KArmakar died in a wild elephant attack at Vanguna forest, Teliamura on Monday. But his dead body was recovered on Tuesday by forest department officials.
According to the details, Sunil Karmakar with one of his family members, Baldeb, visited to Vanguna forest, Teliamura on Monday to collect firewood. Meanwhile after entering the forest a Wild elephant chased them, and Baldeb somehow managed to escape from the deep forest but Sunil could not come out.
The news of the incident was given to Teliamura PS and Teliamura Forest Department, on receiving the news police and forest department officials rushed to the spot but after much searching, no trace of Sunil was found on Monday. To find out Sunil’s body on Tuesday Morning the forest department, the locals and the volunteers team again engaged to search and later Sunil’s dead body was found out from the forest.
Police and forest officials recovered Sunil Karmakar's lifeless body from the spot and brought it to Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital for an autopsy.
The incident has cast a shadow of mourning over the area. The villagers in the area are facing serious problems due to wild elephant attacks.
However, the forest department had warned in the area earlier that no one should go to the forest, as the elephant is highly active in this forest. Reportedly, Elephant attacks have caused a number of deaths in recent months. Locals demanded the forest department should resolve the matter immediately, so that the villagers would not live under the Wild elephant’s terror.
