AGARTALA, May 29 (TIWN): Amid Vision Document’s promise to ensure drinking water to every household in the state, acute drinking water scarcity paralyzed remote areas' livelihood. Villagers gheraoed the pump operator on Saturday by demanding drinking water at Shikaribari. There is no doubt people in remote areas have been deprived of all facilities. Such a deplorable situation has been captured in the Shikaribari area. Villagers protested over water scarcity and gheraoed the pump operator office and claimed they would gheraoed the pump operator office until their demand was fulfilled. However, the pump operator later was freed from the angry local villagers with a promise to bring the water scarcity issue to the higher authorities to solve the water crisis issue.

Reportedly, the people of Shikaribari area have been suffering from a severe water crisis for the last one year. Even after repeatedly informing to the local leaders and Panchayat members no positive initiative has been taken allegedly, which resulted in villagers facing massive water crisis.

Agitated mobs have threatened to gheraoed the block office, electric office including all offices in the area if the issue is not resolved within three days. The angry villagers also said if immediately the water Scarcity problem is not fixed then they will go for further protest massively.

However, this kind of scenario is nothing new, people in remote areas have always been deprived of various facilities. The government who remains busy in giving long lists of various promises before election but after winning election leaders to MLAs tied their eyes when it comes to fixing problems. 

The Hira government is failing to provide drinking water supply and electricity services during this crisis of Corona Pandemic across the state.

The local people of the area are now demanding to solve the acute drinking water shortage immediately. Now it remains to be seen whether the villagers would be freed from drinking water scarcity or not.
