AGARTALA, May 27 (TIWN): The pandemic has crushed independent booksellers across the state so ferociously, their futures are as precarious as they’ve ever been.
All Tripura Book Sellers and Publishers held a press meet today in Orient Chowmuhani appealing to the Government to let them keep their shops open for a particular time so that the students and teachers can buy the necessary books which might also save the publishers’ livelihood.
Addressing the press, General Secretary of All Tripura BookSellers and Publishers, Uttam Chakraborty conveyed,” we are abiding by the curfew imposed by the state government due to the pandemic but a fixed time should be given for us to keep our shops open.
We have received several calls from the students and teachers of our state to deliver them the required books they need to sit for their exams. We put our demand before the education Minister yesterday when he assured us to discuss the matter in the cabinet.
Through the media, we want to draw the attention of the state government with our demand.” “The students from different parts of the state have also raised the same demand and we have attached their copies with our letter”, he asserted.
