AGARTALA, May 25 (TIWN): Over four hundred people in the Rajnagar assembly constituency are infected with the coronavirus. People who are suffering an infection received no help from the government or the administration officials with food or medicines.

Despite the opposition demanded Rs 7,500 in cash and 10 kg of rice and other food items for the poor section of the society, the government seems to have no concern about them.

Today at noon, at the initiative of the Niharnagar CPIM area Committee, some food items were distributed to the members of 30 families in the Krishnabashi area of Niharnagar.

MLA Sudhan Das, party regional secretary Amrita Lal Das and other party leaders participated actively today.

"The government promised to pay Rs. 1,500 per patient to buy food and medicines but it has not fulfilled the promise yet", claimed Sudhan Das.

On May 18, a delegation from the CPIM South District Committee handed over a deputation with 6-point demand to Dr. Jagdish Nama, the Chief Health Officer, South District, demanding necessary action in the Corona situation.

The delegation included Basudeb Majumder, secretary of the party's southern district committee, Tapas Dutta, secretary of the sub-divisional committee, and MLA Sudhan Das, secretary of the state committee of the Scheduled Caste Coordination Committee.

Their demands included,

·   To bring all people under the COVID vaccination process and complete the vaccination process

·   Soon identification of  COVID positive patients through area-based COVID testing and arrange for their isolation

·   To fully bear the responsibility of treating and feeding the patients suffering from the deadly virus

·   Demand for fixed prices by the government to stop the black market of medicines and necessary medical equipment to deal with the virus.

The delegation held a lengthy discussion with the District Chief Health Officer while handing over the six-point demand memorandum.
