AGARTALA, May 24(TIWN): For the past three years there have been intense work and food shortages in rural areas of the so-called model state, Tripura. The poverty, hunger and workless situation creating poor people be involved with various illegal activities and heinous acts. On one side, the state Govt is claiming poor people are getting help from the state govt. but the ground reality shows different scenarios. Driven by extreme poverty and lack of work facilities a father taking up petty jobs, tried to sell off his daughter. The incident took place at Tetultila village of Sepaihaor Vill Panchayat under Khowai police station.

A helpless father, Prashanta Tanti, resident of Tetultila village was caught by local people while selling his 3 years old daughter. The baby girl was being sold to a man in a neighbouring village on Monday morning. It is learned that Prashant Tanti, had earlier sold his five-year-old daughter due to scarcity. On spreading the news of selling his daughter the local women of the area rescued the girl from being sold.

The poor helpless father immediately left the child at home and fled away from his house. The little girl is now currently under the care of her neighbour’s family. Also, it is learned that the mother of the little girl has left her husband few years ago and gone elsewhere.

Such an incident shows the poor people of Tripura are living under starvation and in reality, poor helpless people are not getting financial help in Diamond era from Tripura govt.

People are starving to death in some areas. Facing the tough challenges of livelihood, Prashant Tanti, a resident of Tetultila village of Sepaihao gram panchayat under Khowai PS tried to sell his 3-old daughter due to extreme poverty. However, the locals in the area could save the minor from being sold in a neighboring village on Monday morning. The villagers also alleged that earlier Prashant sold his five-year-old son due to the same reason. His wife is known to have left him a few months back. The women of the area prevented the news of child trafficking from spreading. The helpless father got in the way and left the child in the empty house and fled. The unfortunate child is currently in the care of the locals in the area.
