AGARTALA, May 20 (TIWN): Drug-smuggling and consumptions both have increased in Tripura under the BJP Govt though the Govt at the initial stage called for a "Nesha Mukt Tripura" status for the state which means a total drug-free state. Capital City Agartala's Lake Chowmuhani locals have caught a youth red-handed while peddling brown sugar on Thursday. Getting information, West Agartala Police rushed to the spot and arrested him but local people expressed resentment as police immediately did not take any action against the main head behind such smuggling rackets though in front of media, the arrested youth took the persons' names who control the drug-network there. An auto driver Shyamal Dey's son's name was taken from whom this youth had purchased those brown sugar boxes. The youth later claimed that he bought them for his personal uses, not for sale.

Talking to media, Nanda Lal Banik, President of the BJP Party's Ward No-9 said, "Though such peddlers are getting arrested but they again start their business once they are released. They should not get chance to come out of jail so easily. Other people's names connected to the business were also take. Now let's see what action police take against the racket managers". 

Right now, Covid Curfew is going on in Tripura but such illegal business is not stopping. 2 days back after an accident, huge amount of ganjas were seized from a private car in Charilam amid night curfew.

In such manners smuggling network is quite active and it's not stopping as Tripura BJP's a section among the top layer and their families are found in nexus with such rackets which also resulted in killing of police official in state while smuggling in Sonamura like areas.
