GANGANAGAR (Tripura), May 16 (TIWN): Mob attack was reported at Ganganar police and TSR in Dhalai district after the police arrested three persons for their alleged links with the outlawed National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT). Six policemen were injured after a mob pelted stones and attacked them with sticks.
The mob vandalized three police vans prompting them to lob 3 hand grenades to disperse the unruly crowd from the complex on Friday.
Officer-in-Charge of Ganganagar PS, Mrinal Kanti Reang said that the trouble started soon after the three person’s arrest, a group of people assembled demanding their immediate release.
"They attacked the police station and also vandalized three police vehicles, including a bus and official vehicles of the additional superintendent of police and the sub-divisional police officers of Ambassa," Reang asserted.
The injured were taken to Dhalai District Hospital, he said.
Dhalai district Superintendent of police Kishore Debbarma said they registered an extremist-related case at Ganganagar PS based on which the three persons were picked up and interrogated on Friday.
"We had information and during interrogation, we received some shreds of evidence, including exchange of sim cards with insurgents, which proved that these persons have contact with the militant group following which they were arrested," Debbarma said.
