AGARTALA, April 23 (TIWN): The way COVID-19 is surging high, marking 3 lakhs of cases of over 2000 deaths in a day, highest ever global spike, Tripura Health Dept is not leaving any space in its COVID management preparedness. In Lasinghmura Health Care centre under Spahijala Dist. 100 bed capacity has been kept. Dr. Arijit Sinha has informed that the District authority is all set with preparedness to tackle the condition. He also mentioned, India's condition is worse than the US right now. India has reported more than 300,000 coronavirus cases over the last 24 hours, the highest daily global total, while COVID-19-related deaths also jumped by a record, as a brutal second wave raises fears about the ability of the country’s health services to cope.India’s daily jump of 314,835 cases on Thursday surpasses the previous highest one-day rise in the world of 297,430 cases posted by the United States in January.Â
India’s total cases are now at 15.93 million, the world’s second-highest, while deaths rose by 2,104 to reach a total of 184,657, according to health ministry data. The second wave of coronavirus infections, blamed on a “double mutant” variant and “super-spreader” mass gatherings in the world’s second-most populous nation, has stretched its long-underfunded healthcare system to breaking point.
Delhi recorded 306 Covid-19 deaths in 24 hours on Thursday, the highest since the pandemic began a year ago. It comes at a time when new cases continue to rise exponentially and there is an acute shortage of critical facilities. Hospitals say the death numbers may go up further if the availability of oxygen support, ICU and ventilator beds isn’t augmented fast. Testing has reduced significantly in Delhi over the past few days even as the infection is surging. Doctors say this will adversely affect timely diagnosis, isolation and treatment of Covid-19 patients. “Testing, tracking and treating are the main pillars of Covid management,” said a doctor.
Hospitals across northern and western India including the capital, New Delhi, have issued notices to say they have only a few hours of medical oxygen required to keep COVID-19 patients alive.
