Pohela Boishakh, the Best Day for Bengali Foodies : Heavy rushes in Meat, Fish markets amid High Prices of Food Items

AGARTALA, April 15 (TIWN): From Thursday morning, public rushed to the food markets on the occasion of Pohela Boishakh, a day which marks the Bengali New Year's beginning. From Fish to Sweet, each and every delicious items are readied for the day and this year was no exception. Pohela Boishakh always makes the day wonderful for the foodies as this is the day when kitchens are busy with one after one food items. Social distances in the market although was made mandatory but due to heavy rushes, it was violated in some places. Talking to the sellers they said that chicken (broiler) is at moderate price that is Rs. 150 whereas the local chicken (Deshi) is Rs. 600. Due to COVID-19, business is okay, neither at much loss, nor at much profit.

The sellers inside the market alleged that due to footpath shops, they are facing losses. On the other side, customers said that inside the market, prices are heavy whereas in the footpath public get much relief from heavy prices. In the fish market also, a variety of fish were seen. Same with the vegetable markets where also heavy rush was observed. But in comparison, non-veg food markets remained more crowded and at high demand. 

Talking to the customers, one of them said, "Market price is high but it's afterall an annual programme for us. This is the day, we celebrate with our family".

Another customer with a smiling face said, "I am managing my budget. The way prices are increasing, celebration has become tough. Amid such situations, we have to celebrate this day after all". 

"I want to request all to live in peace and harmony. Let's stay together and united in this society", said a senior citizen.

"This is our festival but nothing is organized in our markets. Huge crises and high prices of items. No fresh item is found but still we have to manage our budgets and festivals at the same time", said another customer.
