Udaipur, December 5 (TIWN): Getting the green signal from the DWS Agartala lab drinking water supply from Gomati Water Treatment Plant, Banduar resumed after three days. This afternoon at 4.15pm water supply services resumed from Banduar plant. Speaking to TIWN over phone DWS SDO Puru Saha said," Today we got green signal from DWS Lab of Agartala and from the afternoon we started supply drinking water from the Banduar Treatment plant. However, till now I have not got the detailed reports band as such I can't make any comment actually what was found in the report. From 3rd December we stopped the supply of water as oil and and other liquid substances found floating on the water of River Gomati."
Immediately from the administration SDM Udaipur informed DWS Minister Ratan Bhowmik about the crisis and Ratan Bhowmik too instructed DWS officials to stop the supply of water immediately. SDO DWS Puru Saha said," On 3th December we sent the water sample to Agartala laboratory in the morning. Again at 2pm we sent another sample to Agartala. In the afternoon we were informed that there was some sort of poisonous materials found in the sample. Immediately we stopped supply of water from that afternoon. Again on 4th December another sample was sent to Agartala. By this time due to continuous flow of water in River Gomati the layer of the oily material and poisonous substance got thinner and thinner. Today we got the green signal from our Agartala lab to start supply of water. And acoordingly from this afternoon we started supply of water. However, tonight our workers will work when night to lift water from River Gomati. And after purification from Saturday morning water supply will become normal."
Meanwhile due to sudden stoppage of drinking water from Banduar plant severe water scarcity grew in Udaipur especially in the Udaipur Municipal Council. To avoid the crisis several water carrying vans were hired from various places. Speaking to TIWN UMC Vice Chairman Ranjan Krishna Das said," We supplied drinking water through water carrying vans. Besides the two vans of Udaipur Municipal Council, we hired one van from Belonia, one from S Gomati, one each from DWS and Agartala Municipal Council. " Ranjan Krishna Das further said that in this criss UMC got assistance from all sectors. And he thanked all who cooperated UMC during the last three days. However, it is learnt that the the poisonous element that was found in the experiment is Arcemedium. Earlie on 2nd December some oil and other liquid substance of Dambur Hydel Plant got mixed in the water of river Gomati. As a result of it panic gripped the people and as a result of it drinking water supply from all the Water Treatment Plants depending on water of River Gomati was stopped.
