AGARTALA, Nov 19 (TIWN): The joint Movement Committee on Thursday called a press-meet where they discussed about the ongoing strike at Kanchanpur and said that the strike will be continued till the government provides a permanent solution over the Bru sattlement issue.
While talking to media one representative of the Joint Movement Committee said,”This is the fourth day of our strike and a huge numbers of people attended the movement today. From students to women to old people, everyone supported us. This strike will be continued till the government fulfills our demands. And in future, this strike will turn massive and will be out of control and we will not be responsible for that, the government will be. That’s why we are requesting the government to sit with us and discuss about this issue and listen to our demands.”
However, reaction over the unrest in Kanchanpur, Tripura Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Debbarman has said that the agitators who are protesting against Bru settlement should look from the humanitarian angle. On being asked by media about any solution came out in this regard, Deputy CM said that stand is clear and Brus issue must be ended now. "Nobody should be Considered as Refugee in own Country. They are prolonged the suffering from 23 years due to the Left Govt", he added. However, he mentioned that State Govt is very positive to hold meetings and discussions with all groups and by discussions only things are proceeding. "We believe in discussions, not conflicts", Debbarman told media.
Local agitators at Kanchanpur under 'Joint Movement' on the other side said that they are not against Bru settlement but against abnormal settling of all Brus in Kanchanpur and they also sought all compensations where Mizo and Bengali families lost their homes starting from 1997 and no Govt gave them compensation.
