AGARTALA, Oct 20 (TIWN): Tripura Mahila Sangram Parishad (TMSP) held protest curriculum in Secretariat infront of the Gandhi idol today. The reason behind this protest curriculum was the privatisation of electric department which is causing excessive hike in electricity bills.
While addressing media one agitator said, "Due to lockdown and Covid pandemic a lot of people have lost their source of income in our State. People can not afford their regular food properly and now this excessive increase of electricity bill is giving them shock. Due to the privatisation of electricity, the bill is rising. Now this new prepaid system made life more miserable as if we delay one day in paying the recharge amount, we won't get any electricity. In a State where people have no job, no source of income how they will bear such costly electricity bills?"
The agitators demanded the govt to withdraw the prepaid system. They also demanded the govt to give free electricity to the families who doesn't come under taxation list.
