World AIDS Day to be observed on Dec 1

Agartala, Nov 30 (TIWN): With an endeavour to step up the fight against HIV by spreading awareness about the dreaded virus, World AIDS Day will be observed across Tripura on tomorrow. To mark the day, Tripura AIDS Control Society has initiated many programmes all over the state.

As part of the programme, a candle light march will be conducted through the different city roads in the capital and two street corners will be organized in front of Agartala City Centre and Tripura AIDS Control Board office, this evening. Tripura Health Secretary and Director will remain present during the function.

On the other hand, an awareness rally will be organized from Umakanta mini-stadium and it would be ended in the same place after traversing through the city roads on tomorrow. Tripura Health Minister Badal Chowdhury, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister- Sahid Chowdhury, Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC)- Dr. Prafullajit Sinha will attend the inauguration ceremony of the awareness rally. Besides, a quiz competition will be held at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan on tomorrow.

In addition, all the district and sub-divisional hospitals including Community Health Centers (CHCs), Primary Health Centers (PHCs) and sub health centers will observe the day through different programmes across the state.

There are over 37.2 million people living with HIV, according to a figure released by World Health Organisation (WHO). The World AIDS Day on December 01 is the day when individuals and organisations from around the world come together to raise awareness about AIDS and demonstrate international solidarity in the face of the pandemic.
