AGARTALA, Oct 2 (TIWN): Tripura University has celebrated its Foundation Day & 150th Birth Anniversary of father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi.

The program started at 8 a.m. in the morning with garlanding of the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi at the Centre for Gandhian Studies, Gandhighat, Agartala by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ganga Prasad Prasain.

Along with the Vice Chancellor, others prominent faculties/officers who offered floral homage at the statue of Gandhiji were Prof. K N Jena, Director of the Centre for Gandhian Studies, Prof. C. B Majumder, Dean of Arts & Commerce, Prof. Sukanta Banik, Dean faculty Science, Dr. K.B Jamatia, Registrar, Prof. Alak Bhattacharya, Director(I/c) CDC, Mr. B . Sanjay, Librarian, Joint Registrar Mr. M.M. Reang, Mr Nirmal Reang , DFO.

The hosting of the University flag programme was organized in Tripura University campus at Suryamaninagar at 9:30 am, where Vice Chancellor addressed the august gathering on the occasion of Foundation Day celebration. This was followed by a Fit India Freedom Run event where several faculty members, staffs and students attended the program.

On this twin occasion of Celebration of 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and Tripura University Foundation Day on 2nd October, 2020, the Centre for Gandhian Studies and Central Library, Tripura University have jointly organized a week long special lecture series on the theme “Understanding dimensions of Gandhian Philosophy” This online lecture series was inaugurated by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Ganga Prasad Prasain at 3 pm.

The program will continue up to 6 October 2020. Fifteen (15) renowned Experts/Professors and Gandhian scholars from fifteen (15) different Universities of India and abroad will deliver their lecture on different aspects of Life and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi. Experts from neighboring country Bangladesh will also participate.

This is going to be first of its kind week long invited lecture series in the history of Tripura University.

The Centre for Gandhian Studies under the visionary stewardship of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor is going to organize many such programs in every month. In the third week of October itself the Centre for Gandhian Studies is going to have another lecture series on theme titled “ Peace, Environment and Development: the Gandhian per” where speakers/resource persons are being inviting resource from places like Kashmir, Kerala, Gujrat, Ladakh, Mizos , Manipur and Nagaland. Prof. K N Jena, Director of Center for Gandhian Studies, Tripura University have reported that the Centre for Gandhian Studies, Tripura University has planned to start a one year PG Diploma program in Peace and Conflict Resolutions. At present such program is being offered at Banaras Hindu University, Hyderbad, and Sikkim University.
