ONGC to set up more GCS to extend its joint ventures soon: ONGC Asset Manager V.P. Mahawar

AGARTALA, November 27 (TIWN): Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (ONGC) Tripura Asset plans to set up more Gas Collecting Stations (GCS) in the state very soon. Along with GCS, ONGC is also all set to extend its joint venture projects, said ONGC Asset Manager V.P. Mahawar in an exclusive talk with TIWN. "ONGC is moving forward to further joint venture projects in Tripura". During interaction with TIWN, ONGC Asset Manager V.P. Mahawar said that the ONGC is heading for the Chambal Fertilizer Plant in North Tripura. He said that, the state govt. will have its 10 percent share for the Chambal fertilizer Plant, whereas the ONGC will have its 45 percent share and Chambal fertilizer will have its 45 per cent. Adding to that Mr. Mahawar further said that at least 800 acres of land will be needed for setting up the Chambal fertilizerplant. And the state govt. had already identified 2 to 3 areas for the mentioned project. Though ONGC not yet finalized estimated gas needed for the Chambal fertilizer Plant.

Asked about the benefit of the Chambal fertilizer Plant, Mr. Mahawar said that once the plant is set up, it can cater the need of the people of the state. He said, the Plant will be set up to provide 1.3 metric tonnes of urea.  

Later, during the interaction, in regard of setting up more Gas Collecting Station (GCS) ONGC Asset Manager V.P. Mahawar said that recently the existing Kunabon GCS had been fully upgraded. Besides the ONGC is planning to set up another three GCS at Sonamura, Telimaura and Gojalia side. Briefing the GCS, Mr. Mahawar said that the land had already been acquired for the GCS at Gojalia, where at least 6 wells had been drilled amongst which 4 are gas bearing. The GCS at Gojalia will start functioning by 2017, said Mahawar.

ONGC, a fortune 500 company of the Govt. Of India, owns significant natural gas reserves in the North-Eastern State of Tripura. The initiative of ONGC is expected to transform the power scenario of the entire NE region of the country with rapid economic development of the region. The generation project linked with transmission project and upstream gas supply project is slated to bring in investments of around Rs. 9000 crore, in the region.

Is sponsored by ONGC, Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services Limited (IL&FS) and Government of Tripura for the implementation of 726.6 MW CCGT thermal power project at Palatana in Tripura to Supply power to the power deficit areas of North-Eastern states of the country. ONGC, IL&FS and govt. Of Tripura have entered into a shareholders’ agreement on September 18, 2008 for subscribing to the equity of OTPC .
