Agartala, Nov 27 (TIWN): Several questions are being raised on the role of police after failing to arrest the allegedly accused engineer Santanu Das after 15 days of filing FIR against him for allegedly raping a lady engineer cum senior manager of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL).

Even in the so called ‘golden era’, top lady officials of administration are seems to be unprotected after police failed to nab Santanu Das till date. He is reportedly a leader of state ruling front employees. A section of ruling front leaders headed by Melarmath are allegedly trying to protect the accused engineer.

One after another girl, right from 5 years is falling in the trap of evil-eyes. But the so called police department is playing role as mute spectator. The state government is allegedly protects the accused persons instead of taking stern action against them. As a result, the numbers of rape, gang-rape, atrocities on women, murder post rape are alarmingly increasing in Tripura day by day.

It is to be noted here; the lady engineer cum senior manager of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) had lodged an FIR at the West Agartala Women police station on November 13, against another engineer Santanu Das (43), resident of Kumari Tilla, outskirt of the capital city Agartala with the charges of rape.

According to the police, both, the victim and Santanu joined the department way back in 1997 and they were in love with each other. During their prolonged affairs, Santanu allegedly developed physical relation with her by assuring her to tie the knot. But, Santanu rejected the proposal of victim for marriage. After being cheated, the victim rushed to the West Agartala Women police station and lodged an FIR against Santanu on November 13. Police registered the case under section 448/ 376 (1)/ 417 of Indian Penal Code (IPC).

On being asked, police today said, “Santanu Das yesterday received interim bail order from the High Court of Tripura. Police are investigating the matter and trying to nab the allegedly accused person.”
