AGARTALA, November 25 (TIWN): In a last ditch attempt to save his clean image, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Monday declined the allegations on the order of procurement of book “Attit Diner Smriti” written by Chief Minister Manik Sarkar by Rasthriya Madhyamik Shikhsha Abhiyan (RMSA). He said the order was issued by the junior officials of the school education department without any approval of the higher authority.

Talking to the media persons on Monday at the secretariat conference hall, CM Manik Sarkar said that, till today in his whole life he had not ordered anyone to buy his book “Attit Diner Smriti”. In same fashion former Chief Secretary S.K.Panda also denied his involvement for forcing Govt Schools to buy his book "One plus one = Eleven".

Earlier, the Tripura government has suspended a senior officer and cautioned another for issuing an order to purchase books written by the Chief Minister and the then chief secretary.

Ambalika Datta was suspended from service and the government also cautioned Additional Director of School Education D.K. Debbarma. Datta was the deputy director in-charge of Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA).

Two officers issued an order to the district programme coordinators of RMSA asking them to purchase “Atit Diner Smriti” written by Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, and “Making One Plus One Eleven — Some Experiences of Tripura” written by former chief secretary Sanjay Kumar Panda.

Later, both BJP and Congress reacted sharply over the suspension of education department deputy director Ambalika Datta. The national parties said Datta is being made a scapegoat to shield the chief minister and sought a high-level probe into the allegations. BJP has taken up the matter with the Union HRD Ministry and the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

According to a report, Datta approved a procurement order as directed by her superiors in the education department. The order for purchasing the books was issued by additional director of the department D K Debbarma. While Datta has been suspended, Debbarma has been let off with just a warning.

However, no one in State in mood to believe this story as CM is known as mirco managing boss looking after every details or every department. Without Manik Sarkar and Chief Secretary S.K.Panda's orders, no junior officer had guts to order private books from RMSA Central Funds.
