AGARTALA, November 24 (TIWN): Chief Minister Manik Sarkar informed media in a press briefing at Secretariat on Monday evening that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to fly from Dimapur and arrive at Agartala on December 1st. From Agartala,PM will proceed towards Palatana,Udaipur to inaugurate COG of OTPC Unit II. Prime Minister will address a public rally at Palatana. Upon returning from Palatana Plant, PM Modi will meet Ministers and senior officials at State Secretariat. During the meeting with Prime Minister, State Govt would raise some key issues and demands like establishing an IIT, IIM, Central Agricultural University, Tripura- Bangladesh Railway lines, Broad gauge conversion work etc. At the same time it is expected that Modi's team will point out the failures and lapses on the part of State Govt on implementation of various central schemes. CM would request Modi to stress upon the importance on strengthening Tripura- Bangla relations, and regular use of the Ashuganj port in Bangladesh.

As per CM, State Govt would request PM Modi to help develop  infrastructures at the Ashuganj Port for the benefit of Tripura and to talk with Bangladesh counterpart to speed up this work. Beside CM also would request for a regular access of the Chittagong port.  CM said, he wants Tripura to be an educational hub which may bring benefit to the South East Asian students for better bonding with Indian mainstream.

Preparations are now in war footing in Palatana and the Minister ratan Bhowmik  and other officials supervising the stage preparation . This time the stage is being built a new . On 2013 when the President of India Pranab Mukherjee dedicated the Unit-I to the nation on 21st June, the stage was built on the roof of the Security Building of the Plant. And this time the stage will be towards the northern side of the Security Building. The construction agency engaged in the stage preparation and beautification of the plant for Modi's visit has briefed the officials about the preparation. The agency has already brought 2000 tents from Agartala to erectt a temporary tent for the crowd. But officials have asked the agency not to build that extent right now. The first team of Special Protection Guards(SPG) will arrive in Tripura on 1st December and will immediately visit the plant. The final decision of errecting a tent for crowd gathering will be taken after the SPG visit and if the SPG team does give green signal, then only the agency will be asked to build the tent.

Yesterday, during visit of  DWS Minister and officials,  2 hours long closed door meeting held with OTPC officials . The meeting was attended by Minister Ratan Bhowmik, ICA Director Santanu Debbarma, ICA Secretary Santanu Das, OTPC MD S K Dube, OTPC GM Mukul Banerjee, DM Gomati Sonal Goel , SP Gomati Sankar Debnath and SDM Udaipur Ajit Debnath. Ahead of PM visit hundreds of workers are now busy in painting, repairing, wielding and beautification works. Attempts are beingade to give the plant a new look before the PM.

It is to be mentioned here that the Foundation Stone of this 726.6MW Combined Cycle Gas Turbine(CCGT) Thermal Power Plant- a joint venture of ONGC and Tripura Power Company(OTPC) was laid on 29th September 2005 by the then Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. At that it was estimated that the total of Rs 4000 crore cost would cost for the completion of this plant. Now in 2014 the total cost has already crossed Rs 10000 crore making it the biggest of such plants in the entire NE region.

Needless to say, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and Administration will try their best to please Prime Minister Modi for increasing central funding in different projects in Tripura but Prime Minister Modi and his tech savvy team may play hardball with State Govt. on various issues like MGNREGA Scam, mis-management of Central funds. State BJP unit already supplied PMO (Prime Minister's Office) all the relevant papers of mutiple scams under Manik Sarkar's regime.
